PHASE 1 CONSTRUCTION COMPLETED

During a Consecration Service on Sunday 23 September 2007, a time capsule was placed in the south column of the east entrance of the new addition. A cornerstone with the "2007" date sealed the cavity. That ceremony marked the completion of the major construction project begun 15 months earlier when the initial excavation was started and it officially opened the new building for beneficial occupancy. All inspections were complete and all necessary approvals had been secured. The Sulphur Grove Church congregation and the Huber Heights Community now were ready to put into use this long-dreamed of and long-sought facility. With inspiration and guidance from the Holy Spirit, we could now put this facility into operation for the glory of God and the benefit of the people of our community.

PROJECT SUMMARY

RECOGNIZING THE NEED --- For several years, the congregation and the leadership of Sulphur Grove Church had realized that the existing facilities were in need of expansion to meet the diverse needs of a growing congregation and to better serve the local community. After the prerequisite needs surveys, short and long range studies, preliminary design reviews, and an examination of the potential financial support, the congregation approved the decision to undertake a building program, established a building committee, secured the services of an architect, and started the detailed development of a new building addition and some major renovations to the existing facilities all designed to meet the needs of the expanding congregation.

INITIAL PLANNING --- Preliminary plans were developed and approved, a funding campaign -- "Building on a Strong Foundation" -- was conducted, architects detailed plans developed, a general contractor selected, building permits secured, and loans approved. By the end of June 2006, after some two years of concentrated planning, the much prayed about day arrived when the excavation work could begin.

THE CONSTRUCTION & RENOVATION --- This two-story addition includes a larger activities center, a new kitchen, new class and meeting rooms, new restrooms on each floor, and needed storage space. Renovations to the existing fellowship hall-education building include two new rooms for nursery and toddler care, an elevator to provide access to all floors by those with handicapping conditions, and central air conditioning. An existing ramp has been rearranged to enlarge the gathering area adjacent to the sanctuary. During this renovation, electrical and communications services were upgraded and connections to both city water and sewer were made. After more than a century on a local well and a septic system, they were retired.

CONSTRUCTION SCHEDULE --- Construction was expected to be underway through late spring 2007, depending largely on the weather. Actual construction, grading, landscaping and clean-up continued into mid-summer. As far as possible, normal church functions continued. Some portions of the parking lot were temporarily unavailable.
